   Prepare an Ethereum wallet with prior Compound activity. Since this is a retroactive airdrop, wallets that have previously supplied assets, borrowed, or voted in Compound governance on Ethereum mainnet are the strongest candidates. Check your wallet's history on Etherscan to confirm past Compound contract interactions.

   Ensure MetaMask (or another EVM-compatible wallet) is configured for Ethereum Mainnet (Chain ID: 1). Compound V2 and V3 operate natively on Ethereum. Using the wrong network (e.g., Polygon or Arbitrum) will result in a failed connection to the claim portal.

   Top up your wallet with at least $10–20 worth of ETH to cover gas fees. Claiming USDT on Ethereum mainnet is a real on-chain transaction that requires ETH for gas. Without sufficient ETH, the transaction will fail — and you may still be charged a small gas fee for the failed attempt.

   Navigate to the official Compound website at compound.finance and locate the claim announcement. Always type the URL directly into your browser or use a saved bookmark. Verify the HTTPS padlock and domain before proceeding — phishing sites with similar domain names (e.g., compound-finance.io, compound-claim.com) are common.

   Cross-reference the claim link with the official @compoundfinance Twitter / X account. Official campaigns are announced through verified social channels. If you cannot find an announcement on the official account matching the claim portal URL, treat it as a potential scam and do not proceed.

   Connect your eligible wallet to the official claim portal by clicking 'Connect Wallet'. Choose MetaMask or WalletConnect. This initial connection is a read-only authorization — it does not move any funds. Nonetheless, only connect on legitimate sites.

   Sign the eligibility verification message when prompted. The portal will ask you to sign a message (not a gas-costing transaction) to prove wallet ownership. Read the message text carefully — it should be a simple ownership confirmation and should not request token approvals or spending permissions.

   Complete any required social tasks if prompted. Some Compound promotional campaigns include social verification steps such as following the official Twitter account, joining the governance forum (comp.xyz), or connecting a Telegram account. Complete these on the official pages only.

   If you are a new user with no prior Compound history, consider making a small supply deposit on Compound III (app.compound.finance) to establish on-chain eligibility for future retroactive campaigns. Supplying even $50–100 USDC to the USDC mainnet market generates interest and logs your wallet as an active Compound participant.

    Check the current Ethereum gas price before submitting the claim transaction. Use Blocknative or ETH Gas Station. Aim to claim when gas is below 30–40 Gwei — typically between 01:00 and 08:00 UTC on weekdays, or during weekends. This step directly affects your net reward after fees.

    Click 'Claim USDT' and confirm the transaction in your wallet. Review the transaction details: recipient should be the Compound claim contract, the amount should show 8 USDT, and the token contract should match the official USDT address (0xdAC17F958D2ee523a2206206994597C13D831ec7). Do not proceed if anything looks unexpected.

    Wait for the transaction to confirm on Ethereum mainnet — typically 1–3 minutes under normal conditions. You can track the transaction hash on Etherscan. Once the status shows 'Success', the 8 USDT will be visible in your wallet.

    Add the USDT token to your wallet's token list if it does not appear automatically. In MetaMask: click 'Import tokens', paste the contract address 0xdAC17F958D2ee523a2206206994597C13D831ec7, and the token should populate. Confirm your balance shows 8 USDT.

    Do not attempt to claim from multiple wallets on the same IP address or device session. Anti-sybil checks on Compound campaigns cross-reference IP metadata, wallet age, and on-chain behavior patterns. Using the same connection for multiple wallets is a strong disqualification signal that can get all your wallets banned from the claim.

15. 15

    Record the transaction hash and date for tax purposes. In many jurisdictions, receiving USDT as an airdrop is a taxable income event at the fair market value on the date of receipt ($8 in this case). Tools like CoinTracker, TokenTax, or Koinly can automatically import your Compound transactions if you connect your wallet address.
